What is Captcha?
We have created a Captcha solution, the most common one where a picture with letters and number being displayed. "Captcha" is a common term for software which has a goal to: recognize whether it's a person or a machine communicating with your program. It's being done by giving a task which is easy for human but very difficult for a machine, such as: speach recognition, handwriting recognition. For example: If you ever had a guestbook on your website you know they need some protection. Without any protection somebody can write a dozen comments easily which is not so good. What is much worse someboyd can: automate the process and send thousands and thousands of comments destroying your guestbook, your free space, and jeopardize the security of the web server. That's where the goal of Captcha solution comes in: it recognizes a machine. If you've ever signed in for a free mail account you've seen the "Captcha" protection with letters and numbers
Our Solution
Our little solution is for Microsoft platform. It's been tested on Microsoft Windows NT4 Server with IIS, and Microsoft Windows 2000 Server with IIS (Internet Information Services - Web Server) and with ASP (yes, old fashioned for NT4 works as well). Our solution is in a .DLL file which you can install easily like any other ActiveX control. Our solution comes with an installation/deinstallation manual and some examples in .asp. Examples explain how to tune it for your needs in case you need to change the appearance: the security net, letters, size of the picture etc. There is also an example in Visual Basic Scripting language included useful to check our component without a webserver. Our component does not leak memory and does not consume a lot of memory and is not security threat of any kind to your server.
