The Purpose of this Utility
This an email utility for Microsoft Outlook Express users. It can help you recovering emails and attachments from a disaster. It can help you reading corrupted mail databases, it can read your mail backups easily, it can help you migrating your mail database from Outlook Express to any other mail client on any operating (Windows, Linux, Unix, BeOS...). If your software and system can read internet emails you can do it easily with this utility with it's "universal export function". A unique option is the one to automaticaly extract and backup all email attachments You can also easily extract all email attachments This program has a virus safe preview for emails, emails with exploit Outlook Express bugs and vulnerabilities cannot harm you if you when you use the built in quick preview.
How to Load E-mails
Click on the Open button. Now you have a choise. You can load emails directly from your Microsoft Outlook Express (version 5 or later), or from a backup copy. Don't use Outlook Express and this utility at the same. Please close Outlook Express before starting this utility! Once you have your emails loaded you can view or export them. You can see a list of emails similiar to any mail client. By clicking on any column such as subject or date you can sort the list. The last column tells a physical position of the email in the mail database file. Sorting by this column gives you the physical order of emails (in most cases it will be very similiar to sorting by date). When you click on an email it will be previewed. Quick preview is safe for viruses and most of the emails will ne shown correctly but it doesn't show attachments. You can see the original view as in Outlook Express by double clicking on the email (or you could right click and select Full Preview from the pop up menu). In the Full Preview you can also save the attachments. By rightclicking on the e-mail a pop-up menu appears. You can copy the entire email to Clipboard and paste it into your favourite word processor or you can save this email to a separate file for a future reference.
How to Save/Export Emails
Once you have your emails loaded you can export them. If you wish to export them back to Outlook Express please follows this link (perhaps you're upgrading your PC, want to move mails from one computer to the other, or import them back from your CD backup). The most universal way to export your emails to other email clients (or to Outlook Express) is by using the Export button. Here is what to do if you want to export emails to another mail client on the same computer: Setup your mail client with the following settings: POP3 or Incoming server: localhost In our utlity click on the Export button and wait for the program to prepare emails for exporting. Once you see the program is ready go to your email client again the click receive. That's it - your emails are in your new client! Now you can close the programs' Export dialog and set your providers POP3 (incoming) mail server to a real one. Here is what to do if you want to export emails to another mail client on another OS: In this verision of the utility In order to do use the universal export option to export to another OS you need Windows and another OS to be started at the same time. You can achieve this easily with two computers. If you have only one computer you can use virtual computer software (such as VMWare, Microsoft Virtual PC...). Once you have the (virtual or real) computers networked the export is as easy as in previous case. You only have to find out the name or IP address of the computer where you started this utility and it's Export option. Then you enter this name or number in the e-mail client's POP3 setting or any computer in the network and download emails. The other option is to use the Save function. Saving or backing up emails in a .mbox (or .mbx) format is a good idea as this the most universal format. Such a file should be imported to a lot of email clients.
